Swim Training

Come swim and learn how your dog can live
a healthier lifestyle!

  • 4-6 months of age is best for water introduction. Swim lessons are for all ages.

  • Our pool sites are maintained at a comfortable 80-83 degrees year round.

  • For Pool & General Water Safety Training, see below.

We commonly have clients with dogs that have have a fear of, or "hate water". Trish is in the water guiding your dog until they are comfortable. We use lifejackets and a number of techniques to make the experience a positive one.

Our pools are large enough for lap swimming, fetching and plenty of room for partnering up with a swim buddy. We welcome and encourage owner participation.

Whether you have a dog who needs to overcome fear of water, needs rehab for an injury or a senior dog who is struggling with mobility; swimming is perfect for gaining confidence and improving function. Swimming is also the safest way to exercise, especially for high energy dogs with the extra "crazy gene"!

Why Swimming is Ideal for Your Dog

  • Is non-weight bearing; allowing a pain free workout which promotes muscle regeneration
    and improved function.

  • Reduces canine obesity thus decreasing the risk of other health related problems.

  • Allows dogs with arthritis, dysplasia, obesity and injury to exercise without
    the pain experienced on land.

  • Water temperature allows for extended exercise without overheating.

  • Provides excellent conditioning for competitive, working and show dogs.

  • Swimming help your dog overcome their fear and gain confidence.

Swim Training & Pool Safety

SWIM LESSONS FOR ALL AGES: Most dogs do not automatically know how to swim. If they have no purpose or focus, it can be a frantic and stressful experience. Throwing them in the water can be dangerous; dogs CAN easily drown.

We are in the water with your dog providing hands-on instruction to both you and your dog. We want this first experience to be positive for everyone! It usually only takes about ten minutes for dogs to become comfortable with the swim experience.

It is best to introduce your dog to the water around 4-6 months of age. Young dogs usually do not have the fear that older dogs have which makes it ideal, but we can teach any age.

The saying "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" is definitely not true! Swimming is an exceptional exercise for our senior citizens with worn out joints and they adapt very quickly!

POOL SAFETY: If you own a pool, this is extremely important! We will teach your dog how to find the stairs since they need to know where they can exit safely, and that the side of the pool is not a way out.

  • An attempt to climb out on the side can result in panic and possible injury.

  • This training will increase your dogs confidence in the water and in general.

BACK YARD DROWNINGS ARE A PREVENTABLE TRAGEDY! Please help us spread the word. It usually takes only one session to teach a dog to be safe.

Lifejackets, Boats, You & Your Dog!

Jasper

Kayaks, paddle boards (SUPS), boats and floats of any size! While enjoying activities on the water, teaching your dog to swim is essential and could save your dogs life. When taking your dog on any body of water, lifejackets should always be worn. Remember, a dog on the water is the equivalent of a small child.

Even if  dogs are strong swimmers, if they fall into the water, they may not be visible to you or others which could lead to them getting hit by another watercraft.

Dogs can also panic and easily tire, potentially leading to drowning. When choosing a lifejacket, make sure it has a handle on the back to lift the dog out of the water. We use (and recommend) Ruff Wear Life Jackets ; visit our products page for more information! Lifejackets are peace of mind for you and your fur family to enjoy the water together.

Very Important! Dogs with heavy bones are sinkers and require lifejackets to safely be in the water. Stocky dogs like bulldogs, staffies, frenchies & pugs fit into this category.
